Newmarket rooftop dining launches with first-to-market restaurants

Westfield Newmarket launched its rooftop dining precinct on Thursday, offering a mix of first-to-market, new and local-favourite restaurants.

The close to 9000 sqm rooftop features a contemporary design aesthetic, outdoor and indoor seating, as well as a kids play area and a water feature to serve as a skylight for the centre itself.

“Our vision was to curate an iconic dining destination in the heart of Auckland,” Scentre Group chief operating officer Greg Miles said.

“It is the perfect place to gather for cocktails after work, lunch with family and friends or dinner after a long day of exploring this great city.”

Restaurants opening alongside the rooftop eatery include INCA Ceviche & Woodfired Grill, White + Wong’s, Sardine Cocktail Bar, Something & Social, as well as New Zealand’s first The Bavarian restaurant, Bodrum Market, Corner Burger, Island Gelato and Ippudo Ramen.

The $790 million redevelopment of the Newmarket shopping centre has been underway since February 2018, has already opened around 60 stores, and expects to grow that number to 200 by the end of 2019.

According to centre-owner Scentre Group, Sass & Bide, Merchant 1948, Husk, Cue, Gorman, Scarpa, Tigerlily, Swarovski, Aje, Walker & Hall, Rodd & Gunn, The Athelete’s Foot, and Bed Bath & Table will open over the course of October.

The centre will house Auckland’s first David Jones, as well as New Zealand’s first Lego store, later in the year.
