Family-owned women’s clothing retailer Ballentynes Fashion Central has closed down after more than 50 years in business.

The 1972-founded business is set to begin closing its 23 locations from August 15, 10 of which are set to reopen as Caroline Eve stores. The Fashion Central business is unrelated to the Christchurch-based Ballantynes Department Store.

“After over 50 years in business, Ballentynes Fashion Central is closing,” the retailer said in an announcement. 

“On behalf of the Ballentyne family, including our incredible team of staff in the stores and in our warehouse. We would like to thank you for your support and for shopping with us over the years.”

The remaining Caroline Eve locations will be Blenheim, Feilding, Hawera, Levin, Lower Hutt, Masterton, Palmerston North, Paraparaumu Beach, Richmond, and Whanganui.

Gift vouchers from Ballentynes will be eligible at Caroline Eve stores for up to six months after each individual handover. Exchanges or returns will not be possible once a store changes hands or is closed.
