Nido launches commercial furniture range ahead of megastore opening

New retailer Nido has launched a commercial furniture range, as it looks to open the biggest retail store in New Zealand later this year.

The range includes thousands of European and locally sourced designer commercial furniture and targets SMEs through to large businesses and government departments looking to update their office design.

“Staff are spending longer hours in the office on average and so how we live is becoming a big driver of how the spaces we work in are designed,” Paulette Redstone, Nido@work’s commercial manager, said in a statement.

“We are finding businesses are adapting their office space to accommodate the flexible needs of their staff as a way of attracting and retaining talent in the firm.”

The range, which customers can currently shop in a temporary showroom outside of Auckland in Henderson, will eventually occupy 1800sqm of Nido’s 27,000sqm megastore when it opens in December.

The store will be the biggest retail store in New Zealand, and is expected to employ more than 200 staff, carry more than 10,000 product lines and feature more than 80 “exclusive brands”, according to a January report in The Southland Times.

Nido is expected to launch additional ranges with products for the average consumer looking to furnish their home later this year.

Offering made made-to-measure flat-pack furniture and an installation service, Nido is hoping to appeal to customers who might otherwise shop at Ikea, which has confirmed plans to open a store in Auckland, though no launch date has been provided.
