Ikea has released its product pricing and launched temporary interactive pop-ups in Christchurch and Wellington ahead of the company’s first local store opening in Auckland on December 4.

The pop-ups will offer customers a chance to explore a selection of products before the Sylvia Park store and online shopping officially go live.

The installations, which do not include retail sales, open in Christchurch on November 18 and in Wellington on November 28, and each pop-up has been themed to reflect its host city.

In Christchurch, the Cathedral Square installation will run until  December 10 and draw on the city’s street-art scene.

Original works, inspred by the brand’s most recognisable items, will be presented by local artists including Miranda Parkes, Adam Popovic, Dcypher, Kophie Su’a-Hulsbosch, Turumeke Harrington, Sha Marie, Ghostcat and Wongi ‘Freak’ Wilson.

Wellington’s version, open until December 17 at Odlins Plaza, centres on the city’s film culture, featuring movie-style posters and trailers created by illustrators and VFX artists, with each piece reinterpreting Ikea designs through genres ranging from indie films to 1970s sci-fi.

“Ikea is a global brand, but we aim to understand what home life is like in all the different cities we’re in,” said Kirsten Hasler, head of marketing for Ikea Australia and New Zealand.

“To show Kiwis what we’re all about and introduce our most iconic products, we’ve enjoyed collaborating with local Kiwi talent, letting them put their own spin on our range.

“We really wanted to connect with the unique vibe of Christchurch and Wellington, bringing Swedish design and Kiwi creativity together.”

Ikea has also released selected New Zealand price points, with items ranging from the $1.99 Frakta bag to larger products, including the Klippan two-seat sofa and Stockholm flatwoven rug, both priced at $399.

Other products include the Poäng armchair at $199, the Svartpoppel cushion cover at $9.99, and the Ikea PS Lömsk swivel armchair at $219.
