Ikea will open its first New Zealand store in Auckland’s Sylvia Park on December 4, two years after its largest retail store operator, Ingka Group, began its construction.
The store will span 34,000sqm, and the company will also launch 29 pick-up points and a nationwide delivery service.
Ikea will offer its Buy Back service along with the store opening, allowing customers to bring back pre-used Ikea products and those from other furniture retailers in a bid to boost sustainability.
New Zealanders will have access to the Ikea Family loyalty program to receive exclusive benefits, early access, and personalised experiences.
The new store will feature a Swedish restaurant, featuring its famous meatballs, plant-based options, and New Zealand-only dishes.
The store will utilise a rooftop solar PV system to supply 50 per cent of the building’s energy, with the remainder purchased from New Zealand’s renewable energy sources, enabling the property to be run entirely by renewable energy.
The building will have 25 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the car park, along with ‘last mile’ EV chargers on-site for delivery trucks and vans.
The New Zealand launch is part of Ikea’s broader strategy, with the company aiming to invest over €5 billion in FY27 to open new stores internationally and optimise existing ones.
