Tauranga Crossing shopping centre has signalled the next stage of its major retail expansion, with a new Farmers flagship set to open late this year.

The two-storey space takes the centre one step closer to the designated goal of enlarging its regional footprint and further positioning itself as a major shopping destination within one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions.

“The opening of Farmers’ new store reflects a significant step in Tauranga Crossing’s growth journey, as it continues to develop alongside the region’s rapid population and infrastructure growth,” said Andrew Campbell, acting CEO of Tauranga Crossing.

The 6500sqm Farmers’ store will stock fashion, beauty, homewares and furniture in a single brand experience.

Stuart Duncan, Farmers CEO, says launching this expansive format store at the cornerstone position intersecting Takatimu Drive is strategically aligned with both brands’ growth ambitions. Housed in a region undergoing broader infrastructure upgrades, this next phase of development hints at further growth in the country’s ‘golden triangle’.

“With continued development in the area and a rapidly growing customer base, we’re proud to play a role in the centre’s evolution and future,” he said.

The store incorporates timber features that echo Tauriko’s timber milling history, while introducing a connecting space between interior and exterior surroundings through its blend of natural light and western facade.

A standout feature of this design-led approach is the cladding of solar panels, which is part of the centre’s broader commitment to sustainability. This decision helps the building conserve energy during the most severe heatwave, especially when the mall’s energy demand reaches its peak.

“We are still on a growth journey, evolving alongside our community. The opening of Farmers represents a significant step in that ongoing transformation, but the centre is only early into its development cycle and there’s a lot more to come,” Campbell concluded.
