Dress Smart Onehunga is set to add a new retail precinct after securing development rights to transform an adjacent car park.

The approval includes the redevelopment of a 7060sqm site which will host new retailers complete with increased parking facilities and an enhanced food and beverage offering.

The expansion points to tough competition in the outlet space with Auckland Airport’s new $200 million-plus premium outlet shopping centre Manawa Bay scheduled to open in 2024, just 9km from Onehunga.

Matt Bowyer, head of retail and logistics at Lendlease Investment Management, which owns Dress Smart Onehunga, said the mall’s expansion will be a “fantastic outcome” for shoppers and the local community alike.

“With its central location, easy access and a great variety of stores, the centre has become a much-loved discount shopping destination over the years.”

The Manawa Bay centre will feature 100 new retail stores across fashion, athleisure, lifestyle, and homeware categories complemented by indoor and outdoor food and dining options.
