Hospitality group opening new concept in Britomart

One of Auckland’s best known bars is re-opening this week under a new name.

The old, Britomart-based Northern Steamship Co will re-open on Friday, August 30, as The Brit, following a $2 million make-over.

The 440sqm venue, owned by leading hospitality company Nourish Group, is being relaunched as a ‘social hall’ that is mean to anchor the buzzing Britomart district.

“Downtown Auckland is thriving but we felt it lacked a pub venue where people can come together, in small or large groups, to enjoy great drinks and food in a relaxed and modern space. We really wanted to own that with The Brit,” said Richard Sigley, founder and director of Nourish Group, which owns and operates 13 venues across the country, including Soul, the Jervois Steak Houses and Euro.

“It’s been built around the notion of sociability. Whether you’re having drinks with colleagues after work, watching the game with friends or grabbing a bite to eat before a concert, it’s the perfect place for people to get together.”

The Brit offers six big screens and a projector for live sports, pool tables and an extensive food and beverage menu.

The design was spearheaded by CTRL Space and built by Well Constructed Limited, and the menu was created by Nourish Group executive chef, Gareth Stewart.

Nourish Group worked on the concept with Britomart Group and Auckland City Council to ensure it aligned with all parties’ vision for the site.

“The result is a great pub that we hope Aucklanders and visitors to the city will come to know and love,” Sigley said.
