Shore City’s envisaged mega mall

Shore CityConcept plans have emerged for a mega mall at Takapuna’s Shore City.

According to these plans, the building will be topped with 360 apartments in two glass towers standing 18 and 30 stories high.

The site will have a total of 9.6 ha of floor space, equivalent to about 12 rugby fields, although much of that will constitute apartments.

Tenders for Shore City close on September 15. The concept plans, the source of the supplied image below, envisage what a purchaser could do with one of Auckland’s smallest malls at only 1.3 ha in an area identified by Auckland Council as a metropolitan centre with big growth potential due to transport links, amenities and infrastructure.

Shore city conceptThis is clear indication that the surge in online retail outlets is not impeding the development of physical stores despite predictions to the contrary.

“That particular block has for a very long time had an unlimited height restriction. It’s very encouraging. There’s a lot of latent potential in Takapuna which has been waiting for a significant landholder to unleash. It’s this sort of unleashing that a lot of other developers are watching out for too,” says Auckland councillor, Chris Darby.
