PGG Wrightson’s Ashburton rural supplies store has won the internationally renowned Environmental Respect Award sponsored by DuPont Crop Protection for retail merchants in the Asia Pacific region and the Ambassador of Respect Award.
This is the first time the award has gone to an Australasian organisation.
The Environmental Respect Awards, sponsored by DuPont Crop Protection, CropLife magazine and FCI magazine, honour outstanding environmental stewardship among those who supply farmers with inputs crucial to safe and effective crop production around the world. The winners exemplify environmental care in areas of security, risk management, product handling and use, worker safety and education and outreach to their communities.
PGG Wrightson Ashburton rural supplies store manager, Catherine McCormick, attended the awards ceremony in Wilmington, US, in July this year.
Back home in New Zealand McCormick expressed pride that the Ashburton Store “and the farmers we service have been recognised internationally with these awards. It is a credit to the outstanding team who work here and recognises the depth of experience from field reps through to the store staff”.
“Our farmers are acutely aware of the need to ensure that today’s inputs do not negatively impact on tomorrow’s needs,” she added.
“As a company PGG Wrightson is a leader in the field of creating sustainable solutions for our farmers and the environment where they can achieve maximum yields with environmentally sustainable inputs.”
2015 marked the program’s 25th year honouring stewardship, sustainability, safety and community outreach efforts of the world’s leading agricultural retailers and distributors.
