Foodstuffs North Island has opened a new Pak’nSave supermarket in Warkworth, north of Auckland, offering consumers a “spacious and contemporary shopping experience”.

The $46 million store spans 5300sqm and is built with 14 self-checkout counters, energy-efficient fridges and freezers, and 275 car parking spaces with dedicated slots for parents with children.

Foodstuffs North Island CEO, Chris Quin, said the store’s design incorporates the latest-generation format, featuring ample space for customers and efficient behind-the-scenes operations, “all designed to keep costs down”.

He added that there will soon be a drive-through click-and-collect area allowing customers to “schedule” their collection and have their groceries delivered to their car.

The owner-operator of the Warkworth PaknSave, Anna Carmichael, said the town is a “special place with its unique mix of urban dwellers and farming communities”.

To minimise food waste, the store will repurpose overripe bananas for making banana bread and use unsold hot-cooked chicken in pizzas, pasta dishes and quiches in the deli.

The Warkworth Food Rescue team will also collect unsellable products for distribution to local food banks, giving back to the local community.
