Construction of New Zealand’s largest purpose-built fashion outlet shopping centre has begun adjacent to Auckland Airport.

Once completed in 2024, the 2500sqm retail space will offer a mix of premium and international designer brands at discounted prices. The $200 million development is located at the north-eastern end of the airport precinct.

Mark Thomson, Auckland Airport’s GM property and commercial, described the project as a ‘major milestone’ that will become a robust retail asset for the airport operator.

“Our vision is to create a landmark outlet shopping centre at Auckland Airport, offering a unique retail and dining experience and mix of high-quality international brands to visitors, with the bonus of easy transport connections right on its doorstep,” he said.

The Colliers retail team, responsible for leasing the new development, said the market response has been strong.

“There’s nothing like it in New Zealand and it’s the type of premium development centre that international brands are looking for,” said Mark Synnott, Colliers chief executive.

The airport has also invested $160 million upgrading its roading network during the past two years, taking advantage of low traveller volumes during the pandemic.
