General Pants confirms dates for first NZ stores

General Pants is launching its first international locations in Auckland and Christchurch in October, offering a range of brands including ksubi, Neuw, Rolla’s, Dr Denim, Nudie, Lee, Levi’s, Insight, Huffer and Stussy, the retailer announced on Monday.

The business’s first store will open in Westfield Newmarket, Auckland on October 16, while the second will launch on October 19 on Christchurch’s Cashel Street.

According to General Pants chief executive Sacha Laing, these first two stores are “only the beginning” of the youth-fashion retailer’s expansion into New Zealand.

Laing revealed to Inside Retail in July that Wellington would see a store opening as part of a larger push into the market, stating the retailer has always had a “strong online business in New Zealand”.

“General Pants has always been embedded in music and fashion, and the New Zealand subculture around that has always been aligned [with that]. We just think it’s a great fit,” Laing said.

“It’s a really exciting time at General Pants.”

General Pants originated in Sydney, Australia in 1972, and has partnered with several big name brands, including Patagonia, The North Face, Dickies, and Harley Davidson.
