Ikea to open first NZ store in Auckland

Ikea-store-brand-logo (1)Global furniture chain Ikea will open its first New Zealand store somewhere in Auckland in the next few years along with an online offering around the same date as the store opening, the company announced.

No specific date and place were mentioned but the NZ store will offer 7000 products from the global brand’s home furnishing solutions and click-together kitchen products.

Ikea announced it will also open a pop-up store prior to the launch of the Auckland store to give consumers a taste of what’s to come.

“We’re really looking forward to bringing the full Ikea experience to New Zealand, working in partnership with the local community to make Ikea a part of Kiwis’ life at home, starting with Auckland,” said Jesper Brodin, president and CEO of Ingka Group.

Ingka Group, the largest Ikea franchisee and currently operates 367 Ikea stores across 30 markets globally, will hold franchise rights for Ikea in New Zealand.

“As a leader in home furnishings globally, we hope to be a partner in life for the many Ikea fans, providing inspiration and solutions to create a better everyday life at home,” Brodin said.

The news follows the company’s announcement last December granting Ingka Group the franchise rights in New Zealand by Inter Ikea Systems B.V.

The retailer reaches about 1.2 billion customers in more than 50 markets through a combination of Ikea stores, e-commerce and pick-up and order points.
