Bayfair completes first stage of redevelopment

Bayfair Stage One Opening 6th December 2018The first stage of the $115 million redevelopment of Bayfair shopping centre has opened, with thousands of Kiwis lining up to explore the new retail offerings.

Thirty new stores have opened in the centre, including Mecca Maxima, Platypus Shoes, Colette, Peter Alexander, Dotti and a Cotton On mega-store.

“The investment in Bayfair shopping centre represents a significant measure of confidence in the region and will support new business and employment opportunities,” AMP Capital’s managing director of shopping centres Mark Kirkland said.

The redeveloped centre is expected to employ an additional 500 people when it is completed. The total footprint will be 42,000sqm and include over 50 additional specialty stores and a new dining precinct.

The expansion has allowed several retailers the opportunity to trial new, larger store experiences, with Rodd & Gunn, Max and Barkers opening larger stores, and Barkers barbers opening a new Groom Room barbershop concept store.

The Coffee Club and Domino’s will return to the centre as part of the redevelopment, while parents will have access to a quiet room, as well as more up-to-date family facilities.

From December 6-9, several retailers will be celebrating the opening, with Mecca Maxima giving away free tote bags, Platypus handing out out gift bags to anyone who spends over $200, and Just Cuts offering 30 free hair cuts.
