Topshop to open new store in Wellington

topshopFashion retailer Topshop will open a two-level flagship store in Wellington later this year, according to Top Retail, the NZ licensee for Topshop.

The new store location, which is at 256 Lambton Quay, was brokered by Metro Commercial.

Nathan Male, Metro director, said this is the third prime site the brand has secured.

The new store will occupy ground floor spaces previously occupied by YD and Maher shoes, plus an extensive area of the first floor where numerous tenants have been vacated. Base building works are currently being completed by the landlord, Male said.

The deal was put together by Male and Metro brokers David Grant and Bryan Block, on behalf of landlord Wilmshurst Properties.

The new Topshop site is in the same area where David Jones will open its first store in New Zealand. The Australian department store giant is currently refurbishing the former Kirkcaldie and Stains store. David Jones has settled an agreement to take on the assigned lease of Lambton Quay in Wellington and pay $400,000 cash for the name “Kirkcaldie & Stains”.

TopShop opened its first store in New Zealand last year at Auckland’s Queen St.
