Foodstuffs is bringing back its Four Square pop-up location at Mystery Creek for the Fieldays 2026 event, running from June 10 to 13.
The opening follows the brand’s initial appearance at the event last year and is part of a partnership between two regional owner-operators, Alex Saunders of Four Square Heaphy Terrace and Chris McDonnell of Four Square Pirongia.
Designed to manage attendee traffic while utilising standard brand design elements, the structure consists of a 9-meter by 18-meter modular building.
Colab Projects Ltd managed the construction of the modular unit, and New Zealand Retail Equipment supplied the internal shelving.
The layout features 13 retail bays, produce baskets, commercial chillers, freezers, a dedicated preparation kitchen, and a specialised steam bun oven.
The inventory available at the site includes prepared food and beverage items such as Havana barista coffee, sandwiches, hot pies, steam buns, and ice cream. It also stocks standard grocery items, snacks, chips, and drinks intended for event visitors.
A fundraising initiative is tied to the event site this year. Saunders constructed a handmade, miniature replica of a Four Square storefront to be distributed via a public raffle. Raffle tickets are priced at $2 each and are sold directly at the event store.
The revenue generated from ticket sales is designated for donation to the Rural Support Trust, an organisation assisting farming communities throughout New Zealand.
Earlier this month, Foodstuffs South Island said it would expand the use of facial recognition technology to more stores after a three-month trial showed changes in store safety.
