Sylvia Park Shopping Centre is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, marking a major milestone since it opened in June 2006.

Owned and developed by Kiwi Property Group, Sylvia Park has grown from a single-format shopping centre into a fully integrated mixed-use precinct spanning retail, entertainment, workspace and residential components.

The centre now attracts close to 17 million visits annually and is home to more than 230 retailers, reinforcing its position as the country’s largest retail destination.

A major expansion milestone came in 2020 with the opening of the Galleria extension, adding around 20,000sqm of retail space and more than 50 stores.

Since then, leasing momentum has continued with a steady pipeline of new tenants and flagship openings. Recent additions include RM Williams, W Cosmetics, Daiso, Roll’d and experiential operator Selfie Studio.

The broader precinct has also been reshaped by the arrival of Ikea’s first New Zealand store, connected directly to the centre via pedestrian linkages, effectively extending Sylvia Park’s catchment and dwell time.

More recently, Lego opened its largest New Zealand store at the centre, with Adidas and Stacks Asian supermarket set to follow.

“Customer expectations have changed significantly over the past two decades,” said Shahyad Asdollah-zadeh, Sylvia Park’s centre manager.

“Sylvia Park has continually responded – expanding its retail mix, enhancing experiences, bringing new-to-market retailers, and investing in spaces that keep people coming back.”

Looking ahead, Kiwi Property is continuing to invest in amenity upgrades, sustainability initiatives and transport integration, positioning Sylvia Park as a long-term mixed-use urban hub within Auckland’s growing eastern corridor.
