New Zealand’s bakery manufacturing industry is experiencing steady growth, with annual revenue reaching an estimated $1.1 billion last year.

According to recent data from IBISWorld, the sector has maintained a compound annual growth rate of 2.7 per cent over the last five years, fueled by sustained consumer demand for specialised and personalised baked goods.

In the growing market, demand for custom celebration cakes is a dominant trend.

Local bakeries report that parents and event planners are increasingly opting for tailored designs for milestone events such as first birthdays, christenings, and gender reveals, rather than off-the-shelf options.

To meet consumer expectations, bakery providers that offer convenience features such as delivery services and flexible ordering systems are well-positioned to capture market share in this growing segment.

As a local provider, Celebration Cakes has extended its online range with Auckland-wide delivery, cake decorating supplies, and cake tin hire services, along with complimentary Saturday cake tastings and custom edible image printing.

According to the data, the bakery sector’s expansion mirrors a broader upward trend in the country’s food service industry, which recorded $8.8 billion in sales in 2023.

Forecasts suggest this momentum will continue through 2028, with the service sector now accounting for roughly 73 per cent of New Zealand’s total GDP.
