Kiwi retailers are finding creative ways to assist consumers with the challenges of last-minute Christmas shopping, including vending machines and quicker delivery options.
New World’s sales data reveals what Kiwis rush to buy in the last three hours before the store closes: groceries. In light of this, the supermarket introduced “Xmas SOS” vending machines that offer festive items like berries, custard, and chocolates.
The vending machines are available at select locations in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. All sales proceeds will be donated to the city mission in each region.
Meanwhile, JB Hi-Fi has partnered with Uber to offer same-day delivery within 20 km of its stores, ensuring orders arrive within 90 minutes or at a scheduled time.
This service, which rolls over into next year, aims to enhance convenience for customers during the holiday rush.
“We’re always looking for new ways to better our customer experience,” said Jon Kirman, marketing and e-commerce manager at JB Hi-Fi New Zealand.
“This collaboration allows our customers to shop online until Christmas Eve without worrying about delivery cut-offs or crowded stores.”
