Foodstuffs has named sustainability and waste management expert Jenny Marshall as its new circular economy – waste minimisation head.

The newly created position will help the cooperative’s 500+ stores reach their aim of reducing trash and diverting 81 per cent of waste from landfills by next year.

Sandy Botterill, head of environmental social governance at Foodstuffs, said Marshall offers “a wealth of experience” in waste management and minimisation having previously served as a senior advisor at the Ministry for the Environment.

“Jenny has a proven track record of implementing sustainable practices and is well placed to help lead our cooperative into the next phase of our sustainability efforts,” Botterill said.

Marshall previously worked for WasteMinz, where she oversaw the Love Food Hate Waste New Zealand and Plastic Free July Aotearoa projects.

Foodstuffs has committed to addressing waste concerns in the grocery business, which supports the organisation’s ‘Here for NZ’ social promises to be sustainability leaders and to help local communities prosper.
