Foodstuffs North Island has opened a new Four Square store in Remuera with a focus on providing convenience and ease to the local community.

Four Square Remuera offers essential groceries, fresh foods and self-checkouts along with meal options such as sushi, croissants and barista-made coffee. It is also fitted with a Lewis Road Creamery milk refilling station.

The store will be operated by Robert Sinclair whose grandfather owned Four Square Balclutha in the 1950s – one of the first self-service supermarkets in New Zealand.

“People are busy and often on the move especially in the lead-up to Christmas, so it’s a great feeling to be able to offer locals plenty of ready-to-go options, as well as a localised range that takes into account the things customers want to see on our shelves,” said Sinclair.

David Gordon, the head of Four Square at Foodstuffs North Island, said the supermarket chain has been serving local communities for more than 98 years.

“This new store is a fantastic example of how we’re transforming and evolving our Four Square stores to ensure we continue to bring a world-class grocery experience to communities across the North Island.”

In September, Four Square introduced a shopping list translator web app to support the kaupapa of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
