Burger King NZ to join Starbucks in Tahua Partners stable

Burger King New Zealand has been acquired by Tahua Partners

Tahua Partners is adding Burger King to its portfolio by acquiring Antares Restaurant Group out of administration.

Under the deal, Tahua will take over the Burger King business from next month. The price of the acquisition has not been disclosed.

“We are working through the transition with the purchaser now, with settlement targeted to occur on 30 October,” said Brendon Gibson, the receiver of the parent companies of Burger King New Zealand. “Securing a going concern sale in the current environment is testament to the drive and commitment of Antares’ management team and all its employees.”

Burger King is Tahua Partners’ second international retail brand, following its acquisition of the Starbucks New Zealand licence in 2018. The fast-food chain is the third largest quick-service restaurant chain in New Zealand with 78 stores nationwide.

“Based on the strength of the Burger King brand and the loyalty of our valued team members, supply partners and guests, we see a lot of potential for the brand in New Zealand,” said John Elliott, executive director at Tahua.

“Our local industry experience means we are uniquely positioned to help the business achieve its full potential in the New Zealand market, and to ensure it’s a high-performing hospitality business delivering for its guests.”

Elliott said the company is planning to invest in Burger King business and people.
