Kate Spade, RM Williams, Mecca and more open new stores

Luxury retailer Kate Spade has opened its second store in New Zealand at the newly opened Commercial Bay precinct.

The global fashion brand is just one of dozens of retailers now trading in shopping centre located in Auckland’s Britomart neighbourhood. Other global brands to set up shop in Commercial Bay include Dior Cosmetics, Furla, Sandro Paris and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as local labels, such as Edmund Hillary and Rodd & Gunn.

Several Australian brands, including Aje, General Pants, Mecca, Papinelle and RM Williams, are also represented in the new development.

Kate Spade New York’s close to 140sqm store features the retailer’s multiple product categories including handbags, ready-to-wear, footwear, fashion accessories, small leather goods, tech accessories, jewellery, watches and gifting.

The retailer said the new Commercial Bay store is a celebration of the brand’s vision under creative director Nicola Glass and reflects the evolution of the brand’s original house codes throughout.

“Our brand and everything we make is with the intent of bringing joy to women – enhancing their personal style and sense of confidence,” Glass said. “The brand has always been known for its clever use of colour and playful sophistication and I looked to embody those brand hallmarks in this new retail vision, but with a modern twist.”

She added that ultimately, her goal as creative director was to create a vision and develop collections that the original customer, the current customer, and a new customer will find covetable.

Kate Spade New York’s other NZ location is at the Auckland International Airport. The retailer also has seven specialty stores in Australia.

Kate Spade is part of Tapestry house.
