Nine NZ companies compromised in global data hack

bigstock-wannacry-internet-hackerNine New Zealand companies, including an online florist, were compromised in a global data hack, according to a recent report by Wired.

More than 770 million e-mail addresses and passwords, a total of 87 gigabytes of data, appear to have been stolen from more than 2000 websites around the world and posted online in a hacker forum.

Wired believes it was the third largest data hack in history.

No credit card information was included in the breach. The nine local websites that were targeted were smaller companies: Blooms Online, Equestrian Entries, Millennium Careers, Kiwi Painting, Oldship2u.co.nz, Shiftme, Socialise, Tauranga Knitting and Maori.org.nz.

Auckland florist Blooms Online said it was unaware of the breach until it was contacted by Radio NZ.
