Swedish fashion retailer H&M has opened its fourth store and first flagship on on Kiwi soil.

The 3500sqm store across four storeys is the first to open in the NZ$1 billion Commercial Bay property development, according to the New Zealand Herald, with further retailers set to open stores next September.

“It’s a super success and we are supper happy that customers really want to see our home department,” H&M country sales manager Daniel Lattemann told the New Zealand Herald.

“It’s the first time we can introduce it here in Auckland, so it’s super exciting.”

H&M’s Commercial Bay store is the first outlet in New Zealand to stock the retailer’s homewares range.

H&M country manager Hans Andersson noted that between 600 and 700 people lined up to see the store open.

“I think this store definitely will be the most frequented because there are so many people passing by here every day,” Andersson told the New Zealand Herald.

“I think it will be the best performing… and this one is really special because it’s the first flagship store in New Zealand.”

Commercial Bay’s first development stage is set to be completed in 2019, and will offer 18,000sqm of retail space alongside a 39,000sqm office tower.
