Woolworths-country-of-origin-boothsWoolworths has launched a widescale product sampling program across 350 stores in Australia, aiming to better inform customers thorugh its country of origin labelling.

After the Australian Federal Government’s country of origin labelling initiative came into effect in July last year, affected food products are required to include the mandatory labelling by July next year.

Woolworths said it was the first supermarket to begin using the new labels on their brand products in October last year, with a range of private label products already carrying the new labelling.

“The new labelling system makes it easier for our customers to better locate Australian made products and understand what percentage of the ingredients are from Australia,” said Adrian Cullen, Woolworths head of sustainability

“For the next five weeks we are hosting instore country of origin labelling display booths across the country.”

Senator Arthur Sinodinos AO, Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science said the government had commenced a country-wide food advertising campaign three weeks ago.

“The instore demonstrations are an extension of the advertising activity and an excellent opportunity for Australian consumers to hear more about the labels”

The country of origin labelling demonstrations are being run in partnership with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and will be instore until mid-June.
