On Tuesday December 8 Foodstuffs North Island will open its New World Whangaparaoa on the former Placemakers site at 570–588 Whangaparaoa Rd. It will be owned and operated by Penny Ashton.
The 1.94 ha Stanmore Bay site includes a supermarket with a ground floor and mezzanine level.
The 2,710 sqm floor area is surrounded by about 14 small retail outlets, cafes and restaurants in two blocks and parking for 215 vehicles.
Foodstuffs lodged its resource consent application in December 2013, and council granted it on March 20, 2014, on a non-notified basis.
The site has access points to busy Whangaparaoa Rd as well as Beverley Rd and Ozone Rd, which are residential. Consent conditions included restricting access from Whangaparaoa Rd to left turn in and left turn out only to reduce the impact on traffic flow.
Foodstuffs was financially responsible for redesign of the Holiday Rd and Ozone Rd intersection prior to the supermarket being built.
A public footpath has also been provided from the south-eastern corner of the Beverley Rd and Brightside Rd intersection to the site.
It will employ 90 workers.
