Boardertown opens first South Island store

BoardertownBoardertown, specialising in skateboards and snowboards over the past 11 years, will open its flagship Queenstown store on Friday.

The store is part of the new Five Mile development in Frankton, just minutes from the airport, which features an architecturally designed skateboard bowl. It is the first of its kind in New Zealand retail as a result of a partnership with Converse/CONS.

Boardertown co-owner, Tim Guy, says, “Not only is it a functional skateboard ramp but it integrates into the store to create experiential retail for our customers. We’re thrilled to have Converse on board to collaborate on a feature wall painted by Christchurch-based graffiti artist Jacob ‘Yikes’ Ryan that will finish the bowl area.”

Boardertown Queenstown is the first store for the Kiwi-owned chain in the South island.

“This store is a significant milestone for our business. It shows we’ve grown beyond being a local operation into a recognised brand both here and in Australia. We hope that Boardertown Queenstown will become a destination for visitors to the Queenstown Lakes District,” says Boardertown founder, Daniel McClean.

“Our approach has always been to embrace the local boarders and we look forward to getting to know the Queenstown community.”
