New Plymouth CBD retailer Kudos Clothing was named the region’s Top Shop as part of the TSB Bank Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
After earlier being named as one of four regional finalists after winning the fashion and footwear category as well as the North Taranaki award, Kudos and the other finalists were again rejudged by mystery shoppers before Kudos was announced as the supreme winner.
Kudos director, Paul Scouller, was surprised by the win on the night and was quick to pay tribute to his retailing colleagues in Taranaki.
“I’m very proud to have the award, especially as we have so many top retailers in New Plymouth and throughout Taranaki,’’ he said.
“I must thank my staff who do a great job as well as our customers, whom are very special. This is for all of you.’’
Scouller said he and the staff at Kudos are conscious of creating a relaxed inviting environment.
“We are certainly client by client focused, ensuring they leave the store satisfied with their experience and purchase.
“Passion and product knowledge lie behind all the labels within our store. We ensure we keep ahead of the fashion trends as we are constantly searching for those undiscovered labels which will set the future trends.
“Our seasonal clothing ranges for the store are selected each season with our dedicated customers in mind.’’
The TSB Top Shop judges certainly echoed Scouller’s comments and were fulsome in their praise of Kudos.

The judges were impressed with the outstanding presentation of the Devon St shop in New Plymouth’s CBD, which was neatly complemented by the staff’s expert knowledge of trends and alternatives. The personal service was attentive, but never intrusive, and made Kudos a pleasure to shop in.’’
Kudos has been in business since November 1999 in its Devon St East location in New Plymouth’s CBD.
It is the second time Kudos has featured strongly at the awards, after being a highly commended finalist in 2010.
