A gift from Parliament

Parliament gift shop copyVisitors to New Zealand’s Parliament in Wellington can take away a little slice of the experience from its gift shop.

The 20sqm gift shop first opened in Parliament House in 1996 and then later moved to the executive wing, otherwise known as the Beehive, in 2005.

According to visitor centre team leader, Tony He, the shop stocks exclusive products symbolic of NZ Parliament, with “images of Parliament’s buildings, House of Representatives logos known as The Crest, as well as various souvenirs and memorabilia”.

“A nice feature is that tourists can send a postcard from the shop marked with the Parliament postmark,” said He.

The store selects products that are locally made, designed, or packaged in NZ.

“Even though the shop has a wide range of products costing from a dollar to a few hundred dollars, all the products are of a high quality,” says He. “This is so that visitors can mark their visit with a souvenir or gift of merit.”

One of the newest products to be stocked by the store is Hauora Honey, which has been selected for sale based on research and comparison of brands to ensure it met the shop’s stringent quality standards.

“For our Manuka, Blue Borage, and Clover honeys to be affirming New Zealand’s reputation is a huge honour,” said Hauora’s marketing manager, Tamara Savage.

“The Hauora Honeys selected for New Zealand Parliament’s visitor shop are exactly the same as those marketed to six countries around the world.”
