BurgerFuel acquires store

BurgerFuelBurgerFuel Worldwide has purchased BurgerFuel Henderson from its current franchisee.

This move supports the company’s plan to acquire and operate company owned stores in order to increase revenue and profits for Burgerfuel Worldwide. The stores will also provide additional training facilities for the company’s global expansion.

The Henderson store joins the Ponsonby store, which has been owned and operated by BurgerFuel since it opened in 1985.

“We’ve put many years into developing an extremely successful business model which makes strong profits for our franchisees and we’re increasing the number of company owned stores in order to meet some key objectives,” Josef Roberts, BurgerFuel CEO, said.

Increasing the number of company owned stores will allow the company to increase revenue and profits, ensuring it meets a minimum 20 per cent ROI, he said. Owning stores also provides the opportunity to train and export more operational teams to other countries for global expansion.

It’s about protecting the BurgerFuel brand and the quality of operations, Roberts said.

“I believe the discipline of operating restaurants ourselves will help us to continue to set and maintain high standards, driving instore excellence for all of our restaurants around the world.”

BurgerFuel plans to remain predominately a franchise model, although considers the ownership of company owned stores is advantageous to BurgerFuel Worldwide as a listed entity.

“We have strong cash reserves and no debt, as well as the management to facilitate key BurgerFuel restaurant purchases and to launch new sites. All our international licence agreements going forward will allow for us to own and operate a percentage of restaurants within franchised territories. It’s a very strategic and important move for us that will develop over time and continue to enhance the value of the company,” Roberts said.

BurgerFuel Worldwide will take possession of BurgerFuel Henderson on October 1. Franchisee Mike Jury has owned the store since it opened in 2004.
