Stonewood Group has unveiled plans for a $100 million refurbishment of the 15-story building at 280 Queen Street, Auckland, which was previously home to Countrywide Bank and National Bank.

Three floors of retail are included in the development – including a rooftop dining space – compromising about 4000sqm of lettable area, including a 500sqm rooftop bar.

Eleven storeys will be dedicated to a 322-room Radisson Red flagship hotel, the worldwide brand’s first in Asia Pacific and Australasia, which will open later next year.

Stonewood Group executive director Vicki Chow said the rooftop space incorporates a large covered terrace, and hotel conference and meetings facilities. “It’s a stunning spot overlooking Albert Park, with all-day sun, water views and fantastic city-scape lights at night.”

The property extends across a city block, from Queen Street to Lorne Street’s vibrant food and beverage district.

It is also located across from Smith & Caughey’s department store and a minute away from the new Te Waihorotiu Station, which will become the country’s busiest metro station when it opens this year. Queen Street currently has a monthly foot count of about 1 million.
