Authentic Brands buys outdoor label Hunter

US-headquartered brand Authentic Brands has acquired the intellectual property of British outdoor lifestyle brand Hunter for an undisclosed sum.

The 160-year-old brand offers a diverse footwear assortment, outerwear, backpacks, and accessories built for outdoor performance in both rural and urban conditions.

“At the intersection of fashion and outdoor, Hunter introduces another elevated global brand to  Authentic’s diverse Lifestyle portfolio,” said Jamie Salter, founder, chairman and CEO of Authentic Brands.

Authentic Brands has appointed The Batra Group (Batra) and US-based fashion footwear brand Marc Fisher Footwear as the brand’s core partners in key regions. 

Batra, a UK-based company specialised in product development, design, sourcing, and distribution, will be Authentic Brands’ primary licensee in the UK and continental Europe. Batra will be in charge of creating and developing Hunter’s footwear, clothes, and accessories, as well as running branded retail stores, wholesale distribution, and e-commerce in those territories.

Meanwhile, Marc Fisher will be Hunter’s primary footwear partner in the US, overseeing the brand’s footwear design, wholesale, and e-commerce operations in the country.

In addition, as part of its brand-building strategy, Authentic Brands aims to accelerate Hunter’s global expansion in the US and Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as key markets throughout Asia Pacific.

Authentic Brands also made a binding bid in April to acquire sports and lifestyle company Boardriders, which includes Australia’s 80-store Surf Dive ‘n Ski chain.
