Retail NZ CEO Greg Harford is to step down, prompting a search by the company’s board for a replacement.

The announcement will be effective in July and Harford will take up a new role as CEO of the Canberra Business Chamber.

“The board and members of Retail NZ thank Greg for his significant contribution to our sector over the past nine years, first as GM Public Affairs and then as CEO,” said Retail NZ president Liz Wheadon.

“Under Greg’s leadership, Retail NZ has really stepped up in terms of delivering advocacy and profile for our sector. Greg was at the forefront of our sector’s response to managing Covid-19, and has been a tireless voice for our sector over the last few years, engaging with the politicians and media, and delivering some big advocacy wins.”

As the new CEO of the Canberra Business Chamber, Harford will engage closely with the company’s members and stakeholders in the Canberra business community to promote their growth and transformation.

“Thanks to all our members and partners for your support. I’m leaving Retail NZ in good shape for the future, and looking forward to working with the Canberra Business Chamber team to support all businesses in the ACT,” Harford wrote in a LinkedIn post.

Last year, Liz Wheadon was named the new president of Retail NZ – the first woman to hold the role – with Jules Lloyd-Jones as VP.
