Kiwi eco-cleaning startup Cleanery lands in Australia

After a successful seeding round in June, raising more than A$2.3 million, New Zealand-based eco startup Cleanery has finally landed in Australia with Woolworths and an undisclosed pharmacy chain as its first major stockists.

Founded in 2020 by Auckland-based Ellie Brade and Mark Sorensen, the company aims to offer sustainable cleaning products without compromise.

Cleanery’s products include multipurpose, kitchen and bathroom cleaners and reusable glass bottles. Its cleaning solutions come in recyclable sachets, which can be mixed with water at home – eliminating the need for single-use bottles.

“We all know customers care about the world we live in, want to reduce their environmental footprint, and worry about excessive packaging and waste,” said Sorensen.

“But they’re also tired of products that don’t work and are overpriced. This is where Cleanery shines, the cleaning performance is awesome, and the price is right.”

The products’ powdered formulations come in 16g sachets, which users can mix with 500ml of warm water in any glass bottle or the brand’s sugar cane-derived bottles.

In addition, the entire range is vegan, biodegradable, cruelty-free, septic-tank safe, and free from solvents, parabens, silicones, dyes, chlorine, ammonia, phthalates, and genetically modified organisms.

Aside from eco ingredients and packaging, the startup says it only uses sustainable postage and packaging options.

“This is a passion project for us – we care deeply about helping customers make positive changes and having an impact at scale,” added Brade.
