US food-delivery service DoorDash is to launch in New Zealand as early as next month.

The National Business Review reports DoorDash is actively recruiting staff on LinkedIn and that the brand aims to offer restaurants and food suppliers a channel significantly cheaper than existing food-delivery services, such as UberEats, Menulog and local company Delivereasy.

LinkedIn advertising includes the phrase “Every corner of New Zealand has a local favourite; this role will help us win at the hyperlocal level.”

The company launched in Australia in 2019 where it claims to have 40,000 local delivery drivers serving 85 per cent of the country’s population.

The NBR reported that it had spoken with New Zealand restaurants that have already signed up to use the DoorDash platform, further confirming the company’s launch plans. One said the commission on orders was significantly less than – around 10 to 25 per cent, compared to as high as 30 per cent on other platforms.

Across the Tasman, DoorDash has boosted its turnover by expanding into grocery-delivery services. In February last year, it partnered with independent supermarket network IGA to provide a groceries-on-demand service from more than 100 stores.

The service promises delivery within as little as 45 minutes from a range of more than 1600 products listed on its app.
