Foodstuffs says it will sell Covid-19 RAT tests through all of its Pak’n’Save, New World and Four Square stores from as early as next week – at cost price.

In a statement, the nation’s largest supermarket operator said that following the government announcement that Rapid Antigen Tests would be allowed to be sold in stores, the retailer would move as quickly as possible to source supplies and make them available to Kiwis.

Foodstuffs will sell the Orient Gene Rapid Covid-19 Self Test five-pack at $32.99 per pack and the Ecotest Covid-19 Rapid Antigen Nasal Pen two-pack at $19.99 per pack.

“Rapid Antigen Testing is proving a valuable surveillance tool within our co-operatives,” the statement said.

“Our teams in supply chain and our distribution centres are taking regular Rapid Antigen Tests which is reducing the risk of transmission at our sites and giving our people extra reassurance we’re doing all we can to keep them safe at work.”

Meanwhile, the company wanted customers that they may see some changes to how stores operate in the coming weeks as more and more team members are required to isolate themselves after close contact with Covid-positive staff, customers or family members.

“This is to make sure we can keep our teams and customers safe and the stock flowing onto shelves, so what you need is there when you do your shopping.”

Store trading hours may need to be shortened if insufficient staff are available to operate stores and customers have been advised to check their local store’s Facebook page for up-to-date information.

Limits may be applied to some products in some stores to ensure supply remains available to as many customers as possible.

Foodstuffs is also asking customers not to visit stores if they are feeling unwell or may be infected with Covid.

“If customers are unable to come into our stores because they are vulnerable, feeling unwell, or are isolating at home, we encourage them to ask a friend or neighbour to shop for them, or use our online and Click & Collect services, where available. Additionally, Student Volunteer Army has reinstated its grocery-delivery service in partnership with New World, predominantly to support people with Covid-19. To access this service go to www.shop.sva.org.nz or call 0800 005 902.”
