Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg to bring burger chain to New Zealand

US movie star Mark Wahlberg is launching his fast food chain, Wahlburger, across New Zealand.

According to Stuff, five stores will be launched in New Zealand, and 15 in Australia, over the next five years in a deal reported to be worth $53.5 million.

Details of when the New Zealand stores will open are still unknown, but the first store in the region will launch in Sydney within the next few months.

The stores are being launched in partnership with United Cinemas and will be located within or next to theatres, will be movie-themed and feature early access to trailers for upcoming movies.

“With its natural ties to the entertainment industry, bringing Wahlburgers into the experience at United Cinemas just seemed like a perfect fit,” Mustaca said, according to Stuff.

The chain has about 50 outlets in the US across 19 states, as well as one store in Canada and Germany each. Wahlburger did launch a store in the UK, but it will not be reopened post-lockdown.
