H&M locks in Wellington opening date

h&m-store-facadeFast fashion giant H&M has confirmed it will open its first Wellington store at Queensgate Shopping Centre in Lower Hutt on October 26.

Queensgate will be the site of H&M’s third store in New Zealand and span 2,700sqm over two levels. The store will stock apparel, underwear and accessories for Men, Women, Kids and Baby, as well as the Home concept which recently launched in H&M at The Crossing, Christchurch.

“We are excited to be making further progress on our expansion in New Zealand with the launch of H&M at Queensgate in October,’ said Hans Andersson, Australia and New Zealand country manager for H&M.

“We look forward to meeting our H&M customers in the country’s capital and engaging them with our wide range of offerings.”

H&M entered the New Zealand market in 2016 with the opening of its first store at Sylvia Park Shopping Centre in Auckland, followed by The Crossing in Christchurch.

Stride’s general manager of shopping centres Roy Stansfield said that the H&M store is expected to be a major drawcard, attracting shoppers from the wider Wellington region.

“We’re delighted to have the commitment of such a high-calibre brand to Queensgate Shopping Centre and to Wellington,” he said.

“H&M’s arrival at Queensgate is testament to the hard work and dedication of our team to growing the centre’s retail offering. It signals the beginning of an exciting new phase in Queensgate’s evolution.”

The centre is currently readying sites for brand new stores, and stores that are returning, relocating and upgrading.

“We expect many of these to be completed before the busy Christmas period,” said Stansfield.

“These include Skechers, Bed Bath N Table, Health 2000, Portmans, Merchant, Bed Bath and Beyond, Boost Juice, and a number of others that we look forward to announcing in due course.”
