Zara tests out NZ

ZaraIconic Spanish fashion house Zara is coming to New Zealand with women’s, men’s and children’s collections to be sold at new retailer, The Shop, in partnership with Jason and Rianda Gitmans.

The Shop will throw open its doors tomorrow in the Milford Centre on the North Shore, and this evening it will host a VIP evening.

Milford is seen as a good destination as its shoppers have disposable cash.

Although the popular chain store made its collections available for New Zealanders on its web shop last year, this is the first time the brand will be featured in a retail store.

The family run outlet promises to exclusively stock a wide selection of Zara women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, and will receive regular shipments of Zara clothing from Spain.

Rumour has it that there is intent to open a standalone Zara flagship store on Queen St as well, following in the footsteps of other European retail brands like Topshop and French Connection. It is commonly felt that other big international brands are underrepresented in NZ.

As much as Zara is popular, social media abounds with negative posts such as “Zara’s great – if you like looking like a black widow spider. Lank haired, anorexic and sullen looking teenagers modelling clothes with black just about the only colour choice. What a choice!”
