Restaurant Brands quarter sales up

KFCRestaurant Brands have reported a total sales increase of 6.4 per cent on the same period last year, with the key contributor KFC’s strong same store sales.

For the 12 weeks ended December 1, 2014, total sales across the company were $81.1 million, with an increase in same store sales of 7.5 per cent.

There was an increase of 10.8 per cent in same store sales for KFC, 4.9 per cent for Starbucks Coffee, and 5.8 per cent for Pizza Hut.

Same store sales for Carl’s Jr. were down 28.9 per cent, with the opening of eight new stores in the prior year contributing to this figure.

Over the quarter, total sales for KFC were $60.7 million, an increase of $5.4 million.

KFC year to date sales were $197.8 million, an increase of 7.2 per cent in total and up 7.7 per cent on same store sales.

Store numbers are now with 91, with the addition of one store during the quarter.

Over the quarter, total sales for Pizza Hut were $10.9 million, down 1.6 per cent.

Pizza Hut year to date sales were $37.4 million, down 0.7 per cent on total sales, and up 7.5 per cent on same store sales.

Store numbers are now 47, compared with 52 in the prior year, with independent franchisees owning 40 Pizza Hut stores.

Over the quarter, total sales for Starbucks Coffee were $5.9 million, up one percent.

Starbucks Coffee year to date sales were $19.1 million, an increase of 1.7 per cent on total sales, and up five per cent on same store sales.

Store numbers are now 26.

Quarterly total sales for Carl’s Jr. were 3.6 million, down 9.6 per cent.

No new stores were opened in the quarter, compared with the same quarter last year when new stores were opened at Auckland International Airport, Hastings and Otahuhu, all with strong initial sales.

Store numbers at the end of the quarter were 16, with an additional store opened in the first week of the fourth quarter and plans to open a further store in Albany.

The acquisition of seven independently owned Carl’s Jr. stores was settled on December 9, 2014.
