Ponsonby Countdown appoints contractor

 

Countdown, Ponsonby Rd Hepburn St - Cider Building-2Ebert Construction has been appointed by Progressive Enterprises as the main contractor to build the new Countdown supermarket in Ponsonby, Auckland.

Progressive Enterprises GM for Property Adrian Walker said that the appointment is a significant milestone in the $95 million project.

“The Cider Building is central to the development and will be home to 14,000sqm of supermarket, specialty retail and office space on the Williamson Avenue side of the site,” Walker said.

The supermarket is being built on the former DYC Vinegar site, on Crummer Road, Pollen Street and Williamson Avenue.

Countdown will be in the Cider Building on the Williamson Avenue/Pollen Street side.

The building comprises 10 retail outlets fronting Williamson Avenue and Pollen Street, Walker said.

Below the Cider Building there will be five levels of carparking, including 220 dedicated carparks for Countdown shoppers.

Three levels of office space will be above the Countdown supermarket.

Work on the site began in December 2013, with Ebert undertaking preparatory works for the Cider Building in early August.

The estimated completion date for the project is in the second quarter of 2016.
