Helly Hansen, the Scandinavian outdoor apparel brand, has opened its first store in New Zealand, the first of many stores planned for the country

The new single-level store, located on Cashel Street in Christchurch Central City, is 175sqm and has modern finishes and Scandinavian designs inspired by the global Helly Hansen brand.

A Helly Hansen spokesperson described the store to Inside Retail as “an evolution” of its latest retail design concept, customised to the local location. It will carry a range similar to that sold in Australia, but with a greater emphasis on technical outdoor wear and snow.

The Norwegian brand, noted for its sailing and ski apparel, workwear, and outdoor wear, is sold locally through high-end retailers such as David Jones and The Iconic. It has more than 40 of its own physical outlets worldwide.

The brand announced the opening of its New Zealand location earlier this year at the time it opened a concept store at Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre

In addition, Helly Hansen has sealed a deal to become the official gear provider for the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) and the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race.

Helly Hansen + CYCA items will be available at the CYCA in-club shop and online store as part of this collaboration. Additionally, selected Helly Hansen retail outlets will carry CYCA-branded products, extending its availability even further.
