Click Monday is returning to provide local retailers with the opportunity to band together and encourage consumers to spend their money within NZ. Close to 100 retailers are taking part in the November 24 one day event, which runs from midnight on Sunday through to midnight on Monday. Newcomers to the event this year include Adidas, Citta Design, The Baby Factory, Rodd & Gunn, Swanndri, Fly Buys, Trade Aid, Amazon Surf, Redcurrent, and K&K. Cate Bryant, Click Monday co-owner, said that â
100 retailers was a personal goal for us, and we are super delighted to be driving additional sales for so many local retailers.”
In November 2013, Click Monday generated over $2 million for the 84 participating retailers, with kiwis clicking more than 300,000 times.
The BNZ Marketview report shows that online shopping is growing at a rate of 13 per cent each year, with 60 per cent of the consumer spending locally, and 40 per cent offshore.
Consumers spending their dollars with overseas retailers is a growing trend, increasing 20 per cent year on year, fastest than the rate of local spending.
Jane Malone, Smith and Caughey’s online business manager, said that that the company has been very happy with the results from the previous Click Monday.
âAs a relative new-comer to the online world, we were looking both to raise awareness of our online store and to showcase some leading brands at excellent prices. The public have responded well to the offers and as an Auckland based retailer we were particularly pleased to see a significant volume of sales from outside the Auckland region,â she said.
Jaime Toothman, Macpac, said that the event has been a success for them, with the company keen to repeat the experience.
“Click Monday probably doubled our normal expected revenue for that day and we saw significant lift with our online conversion rate,” Toothman said.
The worldwide trend for aggregated online sales day is increasing, with the format copied in over 40 countries.
On November 11, Alibaba’s Singles Day in China achieved $9.34 billion in sales with over 278 million orders shipped, and a peak of 2.85 million payment transactions processed per minute.
