Halleinstein Glassons Holdings has bucked the trend of a challenged retail sector with a bumper fiscal 2026 being led by the strength of its Australian Glassons performance.
The NZX-listed retailer jumped by 29 per cent year-on-year, contributing $324.4 million of the groupwide total of $563 million for the year. The group’s online sales contributed to 19 per cent of group revenue, while growing by 26.2 per cent year-on-year.
This sales performance saw a near 50 per cent increase to the group’s bottom line, ending the period with $59.2 million in after-tax profits. The Hallenstein Brothers business in New Zealand posted the sharpest profit increase in the group, with most of its sales coming from Glassons Australia.
Hallensteins’ before-tax profits grew by 129.5 per cent year-on-year, following $113.5 million in sales. Glassons New Zealand recorded $124.8 million in sales, and a 51.9 per cent increase in profit.
The Glassons business refurbished stores in Hamilton Central and Porirua during the year, while the Frankton store in Queensland completed its first full year of trading.
Hallensteins also refurbished its Hamilton Central store while also completing works on its Lynn Mall site. The brand also completed upgrades to stores in St Lukes, New Plymouth and Albany.
Hallenstein Glassons Holdings has begun fiscal 2026 with group sales standing at 18.4 per cent above the same period last year. The group says sales continue to grow across both brands.
“While trading to date has been ahead of the prior year, the period represents a relatively small part of the financial year and precedes the important Black Friday and Christmas trading periods,” the group said.
“The group continues to operate against an uncertain economic and geopolitical backdrop. Changes in consumer spending, foreign exchange rates, freight and logistics costs, and other operating costs may affect trading and profitability over the remainder of the financial year.”
