EB Games has written to its staff as it begins consultation on a plan to close all 38 stores in New Zealand.
The Australian-based retailer sent a letter to all its employees, which has been seen by news outlet Radio NZ.
It reads: “This proposal is not final, and no decision will be made until we have completed a full consultation process in good faith with affected team members.
“This proposal includes the closure of all remaining EB Games New Zealand stores and the New Zealand Distribution Centre.
“If the proposal were to proceed, it would mean that all roles within EB Games New Zealand would be disestablished.”
The letter from MD Shane Stockwell added that the business in Australia has seen “significant success” and will not be impacted.
In the financial year ending February 1, 2025, the GameStop-owned retailer recorded a loss of $4.2 million.
