A new shopping centre has been greenlit for development in Marshland, in north-east Christchurch.

Christchurch City Council has granted resource consent for the 2.5-hectare site on Prestons Road, between the Prestons housing development and a New World supermarket.

Led by Ferrymead Properties – which also owns Mitre 10 Mega Ferrymead – and Prestons Road Investments, the development will include a 1.1-hectare Mitre 10 Mega store with features such as a drive-through trade area and a garden centre.

In addition to the hardware retailer, the shopping centre will house five other buildings covering 3500sqm.

These spaces, ranging from 100sqm to 290sqm, aim to attract a mix of tenants, including hospitality outlets, general retailers, medical facilities, and professional offices. About 375 car parks will also be available.

The new Mitre 10 Mega store will add to the company’s growing presence in the region, with existing stores in Papanui, Hornby, Ferrymead, and Rangiora, alongside another store under construction in Sydenham, set to open in April.

While an official opening date is yet to be confirmed, the store is expected to launch sometime in November.
