ComCom raises alarm over toy recalled by The Warehouse

The Warehouse will face charges from the Commerce Commission over the supply and sale of toys that are potentially dangerous for kids.

The toy, named the Roo Crew Take Apart Vehicle, is advertised as suitable for children aged three and above. It also has a label that warns about choking hazards due to its small parts that may come off during play.

However, the packaging displays a picture of a baby playing with the toy.

“Businesses cannot avoid their responsibility under the Fair Trading Act by simply labelling toys for children over three if the toy is designed or marketed for use by younger children,” said Grant McIntosh, Commerce Commission principal compliance adviser.

“We urge all parents who may have these toys to return them – the dollar value of the toy might be small, but the risk of harm to young children is not worth taking.”

The Warehouse has already issued a voluntary recall for the toy, calling on customers who purchased the product to return it for full refund.
