Amazon UK has unveiled a new fleet of e-cargo bikes, walkers and electric vehicles to make more sustainable deliveries in central London.
The new fleet will directly replace thousands of traditional van trips on London’s roads and will coincide with the launch of its first UK ‘micromobility hub’.
The company says it will make 5 million deliveries per year across more than 10 per cent of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone using the new e-cargo bikes and its existing fleet of electric vans.
John Boumphrey, Amazon UK’s country manager, said: “Our new e-cargo bikes, walkers and growing electric vehicle delivery fleet will help us make more zero-emission customer deliveries than ever before across London and the UK.”
The company will also install 30,000 solar panels at its facilities in Manchester, Haydock, Bristol, Coalville, and Milton Keynes by the end of this year.
The company has 18 on-site solar projects in the UK with plans to double this number by 2024. The rooftop solar projects are expected to produce 13,000 MWh of electricity which can power more than 3500 UK homes per year.
“Doubling the number of on-site solar projects at our facilities across the UK further demonstrates our ambition to power our operations with 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025 and represents an important step on our journey to be net-zero carbon by 2040,” said Boumphrey.
